educational campaign for The National Forest Foundation
_____________
A trailhead development to increase hiker safety and improve search and rescue capacity.
Creating educational and information assets about the development and inter-agency partnership.
The NFF and the Cleveland National Forest (CNF) were thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the Cha’chaany Hamuk Trailhead in May 2024. This project was funded through a partnership between the National Forest Foundation, the Cleveland National Forest, the Wildlife Conservation Board Public Access Grant Program, the San Diego River Conservancy, Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, and Wade Crowfoot, California Secretary of Natural Resources.
Cha’chaany Hamuk is the Kumeyaay name for “Three Waters.” Kumeyaay utilized the native plants and resources in many ways for daily living. The San Diego River continues to be a significant water resource supporting wildlife, supplying water for local communities, and providing a wilderness experience for forest user.
Gaining significantly in popularity, this frequently crowded, yet highly challenging hike takes adventurers through several beautiful ecosystems before leading to the main event: three large, tiered waterfalls wedged between tall, rocky ravines.
